My photo
My name is Frances Rose Agnes Napper aka SmileyRose. I am a friendly and fun loving individual. I like meeting new/old friends. Although I love being with friends, I also enjoy my own space from time to time. I have a number of hobbies. I enjoy taking photographs, going to the theatre, travel (visiting new and exciting places), reading, films and listening to music. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I particularly enjoy it when we all get together. I was a full-time mother for both of my daughters and I did not go back to work until they both reached primary school age. The UK has a lot to offer because there are so many picturesque places to visit. I particularly enjoy the British countryside. My home town was in Stamford, Lincolnshire although I am currently living in Peterborough. My Father was a serving member of the RAF. I'd consider myself well travelled from a very early age (6 months old). Divorced - for 10yrs. Currently single. I am interested in meeting nice folk only. :) Star sign - Leo the Lion. Birthday -July 29th. That's me in a nutshell. :)

Merry Christmas All x

Well it's that time of year again. I have no idea where this past year has gone. ☺ Thank you to all who have been there to love and support me throughout a particularly bad year. 2017 has been a sad year for me, as many of you already know, because i lost my father in March. No words can describe how hard it is to lose someone you love, nothing prepares you for that loss,  which is the reason why I shall also be thinking about friends who have also lost their loved ones over this past year. The first year is always the hardest, so they say.

Here's to all of you who will be thinking about/missing your loved ones this Christmas time.

If any of you are travelling to see friends/relatives, i would just like to say "please take care and travel safely."

Most of all, i would like to wish you all a joyous Christmas and a very prosperous New Year.

Love Fran xxx

Divorce and Children

I would have behaved like a monster if my husband/partner ended our relationship, he moved to another country with our children and they promptly moved another partner into the home, with them!  The law is an ass to itself, if it allows these circumstances to happen.  Of course I would be upset if another person tried to take my place as my child's parent, it is only natural.

Thinks the law should force the residential parent, to make certain that they take their child/ren to the non-residential parent, every other weekend, only if there is no proven evidence of violence or anything of a sexual nature etc,  towards the children.

If it was left to the responsibility of the residential parent to do this, then either parent, if they loved their children,  would not want to move too far away from the non-residential parent.

I am a firm believer that both parents, if they are responsible parents,  should take an active role in bringing up their own children,  even if they divorce/separate.

I saw both of my children every other weekend, after my ex husband and I divorced.  Our children are well adjusted children and both of them are Graduate students.  Most importantly,  both my ex and I never missed out seeing them grow up into lovely human beings.  They were and are,  always well loved by both parents :)

Ps What happens if your partner took the children to live abroad, he/she moved in with someone who was wealthy, however you are made redundat/you don'the have a job to be able to afford to go and visit them? Then what?  :( If my children were young and they went to live in a country wit an ex, I certainly would not want to move to a country where I cannot speak the language! Even if I was wealthy, I would not want to keep plane hopping, just to see my children! It is a different matter if your children choose to live abroad when they are much older ☺

Thinks both parents should take an active part in bringing up the children, for the sake of the children.

British Subjects Only! :) Family And Friends Are Important To Me!

Eww so many men keep messaging me, asking me to be in a relationship with them....many are from abroad! I am very unlikely to ever be in a relationship with someone who lives in another country!!! For one, I would not consider being in a long distant relationship, whereby you had to travel outside of England just to see each other and two, what happens if you divorce, which country would the child/children reside in should one party want to live in a different country?!

ALL of my boyfriends and my ex-husband, have all been British subjects. I have never been in a relationship with someone who lives abroad. They were all British Subjects when i met them. My ex-husband, was indeed English. When we married, we had a similar background. Both of us went to school in England. We BOTH had a British upbringing. It seemed fine because we both had so much in common at the time. We were brought up with the same culture and religion too.

We both spoke the same language to each other, Lol i have a hard job understanding some men, therefore i did not want the added complication of not fully understanding the language that he spoke to me in, when in a relationship together. 😊

My Mum was of the British culture because my Nan was English living in India during the British Raj. I love the different cultures but personally, I would only ever be in a relationship with someone else who was British too. My choice. 😊

I know i have had some attention from a few Americans recently and I know they speak the same language as me, however i would NEVER consider having a relationship whereby i had to keep travelling back and forth to another country! I do not intend moving away from England/from the country i grew up in. I feel quite at home here. I would never consider licing in a country whereby the majority of my family and friends do not reside. Family and friends are important to me. I have a big family and most of the family i know, all reside here in the UK.  ☺

Paddington Bear 2

I had a super weekend with my family members. My sister, brother-in-law and nephew Josh all visited my Mum. I met up with them all and we spent a lovely day at Rutland Water. We had lunch at the Harbour Cafe.

After they left, I decided to go and watch the new #Paddington2 movie at the Showcase de lux Cinema. I must say that i loved the film. I have been a fan of Paddington Bear and Hugh Grant for a long time. The film was great fun and kids from 1-92 will absolutely love it.

A Slight Spoiler

Poor Paddington is accused of a crime he did not commit. He goes to jail. The Brown's decide to try and clear his name because they believe he is innocent. Hugh Grant was absolutely brilliant as Mr Buchanan. A man of many disguises, including a Nun's Habit. 😁

You must go and watch the film. #AFunFilm 😀

RIP David Cassidy

RIP David Cassidy - He was a singer, actor, he was a member of the Partridge family and he was my teenage idol.  He very sadly passed away after an illness.

I loved the partridge family as a young teenager. David Cassidy posters adorned my bedroom wall when I was a teenager. I am so glad I had the opportunity to see David perform at a Westend theatre, the Hippodrome, when he starred in'Time'.

He recorded a number of songs: "I think I love you", "I am a Clown", "Day dreamer", "Could It Be Forever", Cherished to name just a few.

I was so sorry to learn about David Cassidy passing away this morning. He will always be remembered as one of my first schoolgirl crushes.

RIP David Cassidy xx

Time To Say Good-Bye Beautiful Lady :(

Today i tried very hard to hold back the tears, whilst attending the funeral of a very dear family friend, Nancy Manners. This very special lady was like a special Aunt to me,  in fact I sometimes forgot that Nancy was not actually related to me. She was a beautiful person and she will be very sadly missed by my family members and I.

The service was held at the Marholm Crematoriam and afterwards, the wake was held at the Stamford Masonic Lodge. There were very moving tributes from Nancy's husband and their sons. Again, It brought tears to my eyes. The Service was lovely.😢

I have very fond memories of Nancy. I first met her when i was aged 11yrs old. My mum, was invited to Nancy's Avon Party and I went along with her. That evening Nancy chose me as one of her make-up models. She gave me a make-over. I felt so glamorous on that evening, as i had never really worn all that much make-up before. Nancy made me feel good about myself. I always looked up to her as a good role model, because she always looked so glamorous.

Both Nancy and her husband have always attended our family occasions. Indeed they attended my own wedding some years ago. I remember feeling so proud having this glamorous lady at my Wedding. When my husband and i eventually divorced, both Nancy and her husband were both there for me. In fact, they took me out shopping for my Birthday and we had lunch together. They were usually the first people I bumped into, whenever i visited Stamford. We would often have coffee together. I was greatly saddened to hear about Nancy falling ill. Of course this meant that i did not see her as often, due to her not being able to get out and about as often.

As i look back and remember Nancy, with great fondness.....i will always remember her holding my hand as we walked up the Stamford High Street together, and how loved she made me feel. This dear lady will be sadly missed by me.....and my family :(

Today reminded me of my own Father passing away 6 months ago. Another very sad day in my life, when i stood at the very same Crematorium.

Donations today were given to MIND. Donations can be sent via Andrew Woodhouse Independant Funeral Services, Stamford.

Good-bye Nancy. X

A Note To Dad, In Heaven

I hope to spend some time by the seaside soon. :)

I want to stand beside the ocean,
I want to write your name in the sand,
Then when the waves come to wash it away,
I want to write your name again.
I'm reminded of our times together
When i played contently at the beach
In Cyprus and Malaysia
When we went snorkling together
And you chased me as I shrieked
There was so much laughter
There was so much fun
You helped me build my sandcastles
Then we knocked them down again
I giggled as I watched you
Oh how I wish we could do it again
I can feel the warm rays of sunshine
Upon my glowing face
As I stand and watch the ocean
I am trying to remember your smile
The donkey rides at Cleethorpes
And fish and chips at the beach
The Sands of time
Oh where has the time gone?
If only time could stand still.
I can now feel the cool sea breeze
The sun begins to set
Each wave is like a memory
A memory I cannot forget
They will keep returning to haunt me
Because memories never say goodbye.
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Oh I do like to be beside the sea
Where the brass bands play tiddly om pom pom
My memory of you will alway live on.

Graduation Congratulations :)

Congratulations to my daughter Lauren Napper and her boyfriend Lewis Woodhouse for Graduating yesterday at the Cathedral, St Albans.  We all had a super day and I felt very proud and tearful as I watched Lauren at the presentation, which was so very well organised. I loved the musicians who played the William Tell Overture too #Brilliant.

The day brought back memories of my other daughter Catherine Napper, doing exactly the same thing, 3 years ago.  Indeed they are both very smart cookies. :)

Well that is the last of my children to have completed full-time education.  It also means that I do not need to worry about what their future brings. Catherine Napper BA went straight into a full-time job, after completing Uni and it seems that Lauren Napper Bsc will do the very same. :)

Lauren and her boyfriend will be moving to London, into their new flat today!!!! Congratulations Lewis Woodhouse Bsc for managing to get into a full-time job straight away too. :)

They are all such great kids and they all deserve the very best. Good luck with the steady progression in their lives and I am looking to hearing about their future. I am hoping they all go on to do better/greater things in life. Xxx

As for what? 😂😯

I need to win the lottery and move to London me thinks 😂😂😂😂😂

I Have My Own Beliefs.....

Thank you to a friend for giving me the copy of her 'Awake' magazine. They used to be delivered through my letterbox when i lived in Stamford, a number of years ago. Although I am not a Jehovah's Witness, I am always open to reading about all of the different faiths and religions, particularly if they are different to my own.. :)

I remember a really nice guy once giving me a Mormon bible to read, when I lived in Stamford.

It does not hurt to read and to understand about all of the different faiths and religions.  I accept that we all believe in the many different faiths etc so why can't other people accept it. God intended for us to all get along together, not to fight about who is right or who is wrong. It is quite OK to believe in God, but also to accept that we all have our different beliefs and different methods in which we like to practice our faiths/beliefs. Some of us prefer to pray in a church,  some of us don't. I do not judge others because of the way they like to pray, just as long it does not interfere with my own beliefs.

Let's just accept that we are all different. Just because someone else does not belive in the same thing as you, it does not mean anyone is wrong!!!!!!!!

Operation Dynamo - 'Dunkirk'

I have always said that history is very important. There wouldn't be a today if it wasn't for yesterday and all of those brave people who lost their lives during the WW2 and during 'Operation Dynamo.'

This evening I went to watch the film 'Dunkirk' .....What a fabulous ffim!

The film told the story of true events which took place during the Dunkirk evacuation, code named 'Operation Dynamo' AKA the Miracle of Dunkirk.

The film starred Kenneth Branagh,  Fiennes Whitehead, Harry Styles, Tom Hardy, Callan Murphy, Jack Lowden and Mark Ryland.

The film is set in May 1940 when Germany advanced into France and the allied troops were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk. Troops were slowly evacuated using every navel and civilian vessel that could be found. 333,000 soldiers were safely evacuated.

Spitfire aircraft joined the aerial battle in Dunkirk.

Winston Churchill called the events in France 'A colossal military disaster' saying "the whole root and core and brain of the British Army had been stranded at Dunkirk and seemed about to perish or be captured. In his speech, he hailed the rescue as a " Miracle of Deliverance"

3,500 British soldiers lost their lives.

The film was wonderful. Definitely one to go  and see. :)

P's When I saw the letter LC written on the side of the Spitfire, I immediately though about my daughters Catherine and Lauren.  😀

I Can Only Speak English

*Tuts* Asking me to like something I do not understand completely, is asking too much. I have never learnt another language apart from schoolgirl French. I can only speak English fluently. :)

I would never live in another country whereby English was not the main spoken language. I would not expect people to understand me when I am visiting abroad, but I would expect them to be hospitable and helpful, particularly if there is a language barrier during my short visit to their country. I am not planning on permanently living anywhere that does not speak English as the main language, however I can embrace someone else's culture etc during my visit/when I am in their country.

I have lived abroad in Cyprus for 3 years, as a child. I made friends during my stay.  I learnt a little of the Cypriot language, but not enough as I had no plans to live in a non English speaking country. My Father was only based there temporarily with the RAF. I respected the Cyprus people/Cypriots and their culture during my stay. They are indeed such lovely people. I have since visited friends who live there. :)

More Breaking News- GP's To Take Part In A Ballot

Some More Breaking news - GP's are to take part in a ballot later on this year. They are considering stopping the registration of all new patients. About 23,000  GP' s in England are to take part in the ballot. It could see them collectively suspending all new registrations. People moving area/home could be left without a GP.
If all in favour, a second ballot will take place and it will determine if closures will go ahead.

These drastic measures are said to be necessary to defend patient
Safety, morale and health. The increase arose after mounting pressure on the GP Surgeries  re mounting workloads and patients requiring double slots for their appointments, if they do not speak the English language, because they need to allow the extra time for interpreters etc.

In the mean time, GP's in Northern Ireland are carrying out a ballot over whether or not to resign from the NHS and consider charging for appointments.

Pig Skin Bra

Apparently, there is a new breast reconstruction procedure called Braxon. It is for women who choose to have reconstruction after having a mastectomy.  The procedure entails a mesh made up of specially treated pig skin, like an internal bra, to hold the silicone implants in place. It helps to give women a more natural look after having a mastectomy. It can be modelled into a natural breast shape and it integrates well inside the human body.

Another medical breakthrough. ☺

Finger Prick Test For Stroke Patients

Some more breaking news. Apparently,  there is a new finger prick test which could help to save a Stroke patient's life by cutting diagnosis time to under 5 minutes. A simple drop of blood entered onto a reader, detects purine levels within minutes. This can help identify an acute brain injury and help to save someones life.

As some of you may already  know, my late Father was a stroke patient. I am so pleased to hear this news. :)

Board Games :)

I have just read an article in today's Daily Mail re how families are returning to playing board games and completing jigsaw puzzles. Board games seemed to die down for a while, with more and more youngsters favouring Computer games instead.☺

Personally speaking, I love playing Scrabble, Monopoly and Trivial Persuit,  however as a child I had hours of fun playing card games ie; Patience, Mouse Trap, Connect 4, Twister and Buckeroo. I also loved to play dice games, such as Ludo, Snakes and Ladders and Frustration.  I was very fond of playing Draghts with my cousin, who believed strategy was the only way to win! In more recent years, I have played Who Wants to be a Millionaire with a friend;) .☺

My grandmother was very fond of card games. We spent many hours playing cards together, when I was a child.  There was a fabulous board game I remember, called Carroms. I remember playing it with my Father, uncle and cousins. It was a favourite game. The board game originated from India. :)

When I eventually had children of my own, I encouraged them to play lots of board games too. It didn't do them any harm :)

My thoughts on the subject: I think playing board games are a great way of interacting together, as family. It's fun too. The only disadvantage is losing! Lol I am a bad loser. 😅

An English Accent

There are a lot of folk who can speak the English language, who all live in England, however not everyone has an English accent. ☺

I have an English accent, some people call it RP,  Received Pronunciation, it's the accent of Standard English and it used to be commonly used in mostly the Southern part of England. The English language is the language I was taught as a young child, by both of my parents. I was born in 1961. ☺

There are also regional accents around England. Depending upon where you grow up, you are likely to have a regional accent. This is still typically known as having an English accent. :)

Again, there is also a diifference in accents across the United Kingdom as a whole. You can often tell the difference between the English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish accents.

"The Last Word"

The Last Word

I simply loved this film. A very touching film which stars the brilliant actress #ShirleyMacLaine and #AmandaSeyfried. :)

Spoiler Alert

The film tells the story of a wealthy business lady named Harriet, who hires a young writer, Anne, to write her obituary. Her expectations of having a great obituary written about her soon fade when she learns that not many people actually have a good word to say about her. She trys to reshape her life, with the help of Anne. The two women strike up a strong bond together. Anne encourages Harriet to change her legacy  so that she is remembered and at the same time, Harriet encourages Anne to take a good look at reshaping own future as a writer.

I found the film very touching and funny. ☺

I have had a lovely day today. I didn't wake too early. It was a typicalazy Sunday. I met with a friend and we went for a lovely walk around Ferry Meadows. We stopped off for a cappuccino.

I later visited my Mum.

This evening I went to the Showcase De Lux Cinema. I love the reclining seats at the cinema. I went to see Wonder Woman, based on the DC comics character of the same name.  The film starred Gal Gabon as Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as Steven.

I loved the film. It was full of action and we'll worth a trip to the cinema to watch. :)

Salisbury, Wiltshire Used To Be My Home Town :)

Aww my conversation with work colleagues this lunch time, brought back such happy memories of me spending a fortnight in the Salisbury, Wiltshire hospital. It was back in the late 60's/early 70's. I remember sobbing my heart out when I had to leave the hospital because the staff on the children's ward were so lovely to me. One nurse in particular was very kind to me. ☺

It was also the first time a guy, other than my father, ever told me he loved me.;)  Lol I was 7yrs old at the time, having my tonsils removed and this young boy kept holding my hand to reassure me. He looked after me during my entire stay at the hospital. ☺

I have such fond memories of living in Salisbury. My Father was in the RAF and he was based at RAF Old Sarum and Netherhaven. I attended the Fisherton Anger Primary School.  I also attended Saturday School at the Catholic Church. Father Barry used to pick me up every weekend. My school teacher was lovely, her name was Miss Strudwick. She encouraged all of my class mates to write me a little note, which they all put in a huge sack. It was delivered to me at the hospital. I remember reading every one of those notes. My teacher even sent me a copy of the book we had all been reading in class, "The Unicorn.":)

Aww where have all of the years gone? ☺

Well Done Portugal :)

Well done Portugal for winning the Eurovision song contest. The song has such a pretty tune. It was my favourite to win. I love this ballad.  I hope it is released in English. :)

If one day someone asks about me
Tell them I lived to love you
Before you, I only existed
Tired and with nothing to give

My dear, listen to my prayers
I beg you to return, to want me again
I know that one can’t love alone
Maybe slowly you might learn again

My dear, listen to my prayers
I beg you to return, to want me again
I know that one can’t love alone
Maybe slowly you might learn again

If your heart doesn’t wish to give in
Not to feel passion, not to suffer
Without making plans of what will come after
My heart can love for the both of us

Are You Good or Clever?

Are you 'good' or 'clever'? A subject Catherine (my daughter) and I were discussing recently.  ;)

Good and Clever

If all the good people were clever,
And all clever people were good,
The world would be nicer than ever
We thought that it possibly could.

But somehow 'tis seldom or never
The two hit it off as they should,
The good are so harsh to the clever,
The clever, so rude to the good!

So friends, let it be our endeavour
  To make each by each understood;
For few can be good, like the clever,
Or clever, so well as the good.

A Day Out In Birmingham :)

I had a great day out with friends, in Birmingham. Our day began with a bottle of Prosecco and a croissant on the train #GirlyGiggles 😀

When we arrived in Birmingham we hit the shops straight away, well after heading for the loo first ; ) Shops:  Pandora, Warren James, Primark and New Look to name just a few.

We later stopped off at the Jamie Oliver restaurant for lunch. My lasagne was lovely. Julie and Sally then surprised me with a very early birthday present, It was totally unexpected!! I was lost for words for a change #Tears. They only went and bought me the earrings and the necklace I'd thought of buying for myself (at a later stage), to match the bangle I'd just bought!!!! #ThankYouBoth #SoLovely  #Wicked:)

After a few more hours looking around some more shops, we were all ready to drop! Yes the phrase 'Shop Til You Drop' really did apply. ;)

We decided to catch the train home. Only we'd realized we'd been sitting at the wrong platform and we almost missed our train home!!!! 😀

When we finally boarded the train, there were crowds of football supporters who were blocking the way to our seats (which were paid for). Julie had to push some of the guys just to get us onto the train!!!! On our journey home, at one stage, I thought I was going to faint! It was that bad. Half of the guys had not even purchased a ticket!!!!

We did eventually got to our seats, however we were almost back in Peterborough by this time!!!!!

I met some friendly and nice people today. I loved Birmingham for shopping. It was just a shame about the train journey home.  :)

Thank you to Pete, Sally's other half, for taking us to and picking us up from the train Station #SoVeryKind

I had a fabulous day. Thank you so much ladies.  xxxx  😊😊😊
